Melvin “Tiger” Vines

Melvin “Tiger” Vines is a highly versatile, primarily self-taught musician, band leader, painter, and sculptor. Originally from Toledo, Ohio, he plays the trumpet and flugelhorn and is a respected composer. Vines has performed alongside jazz legends, including the Sun Ra Arkestra and bassist Jymmie Merritt. Known for his deep roots in the upper Manhattan jazz scene, he has served as a band leader for various ensembles, including the Harlem Jazz Machine, and was a regular fixture at historic venues like St. Nick’s Pub. Beyond music, he actively showcases his visual art and continues to perform at community events in the New York area.
