NYC Council Legislation Passed To Help – no fines, more time, no fees to get your sign permitted
Effective immediately:
- Three-Year Penalty Freeze: Extends the moratorium on fines for non-compliant awnings and accessory signs for three additional years, lasting until February 8, 2028.
- Updated Eligibility: The moratorium now applies to signs installed before February 9, 2025.
- Safety Restriction: Enforcement is only paused for violations that do not pose health or safety hazards.
- Enhanced Assistance: Extends NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) assistance program for three years to help businesses acquire permits. It notably waives 100% of the relevant permit fees for eligible owners.
