- Affected Properties: Most commercial spaces, new and existing (excluding landmarks/historic districts).
- Compliance Deadline: July 1, 2026. All affected gates must be compliant by this date, regardless of installation year.
- Penalties: Non-compliance is a major violation.
- Gates installed after July 1, 2011, face fines starting at $250 for the first offense and at least $1,000 for subsequent offenses.
- Violations can be resolved if corrected and certified with the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) within 90 days.
